Fitness Testing
Grade 3-5 at Bennington Elementary go through a process of Fitness Testing each Fall and Spring of every school year. These Fitness Tests are completed with students in order to track healthy or unhealthy growth in student development and for students and parents to know how each student is growing and developing. The following are the 6 Fitness Tests and the areas of the body that are tested within these tests.
The 5 Fitness Tests
*Height and weight is also taken for each student
Even though they are called "tests", students are not graded on these tests. Each student has a Healthy Fitness Zone that they are aspiring to perform in the range of. If a student does not perform in this zone, they will see this in his or her results that are sent home with his or her report cards in the 1st and 4th quarters of our school year. You can check out the Healthy Fitness Zones for boys or girls in the link provided below:

Body composition is also described in the following link:
Body Composition
My hope is that throughout the school year, each student will improve his or her performance from the beginning to the end of our year. Improvement or regression is easy to see when comparing the beginning fitness test to the ending fitness test. Upon entering 6th grade, students will be required to still participate in these tests. In 9th grade P.E. grading will begin to be associated within Fitness Tests.
The 5 Fitness Tests
- The Pacer - aerobic, endurance running
- Curl Up - abdominal crunches
- Push Up - arms, chest, and back strength
- Back Saver Sit and Reach - posterior leg flexibility
- Body Mass Index - percentage of fat in the body based on height, weight and age
